curity. The sky is filled with dark clouds, and a cold wind is blowing=E2=
=80=94an atmosphere not entirely unlike Europe=E2=80=99s geopolitical outlo=
ok. The proceedings got off to a rocky start yesterday when a terrorist att=
ack on the outskirts of the security perimeter injured more than 20 people.=
Needless to say, security is tight. </span>

style=3D"word-break: break-word; font-size: 16px;">For the third year in a=
row, the war in Ukraine is the dominant topic of discussion. Following a E=
uropean charm offensive by several Trump administration officials, Vice Pre=
sident J.D. Vance is here, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio is set to arr=
ive shortly. Both are expected to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelens=
kyy. </span></p><p=20
style=3D"margin:0;font-size:16px;mso-line-height-alt:18px"> </p><p sty=

confusion about where exactly the Trump administration stands on the quest=
ion of the United States=E2=80=99 long-time role as Europe=E2=80=99s securi=
ty guarantor, not to mention the trajectory of President Donald Trump=E2=80=
=99s unilateral negotiations with Russia over Ukraine, whether having U.S. =
troops as part of a security arrangement is on or off the table, and the de=
gree to which Europe can and should pick up the slack.</span></p><p=20

t where they fit into the equation, whether they (or the Ukrainians) will b=

d spur a new, realpolitik consensus on European security. </span>

h Foreign Minister Wang Yi having provided the rebuttal to Vance=E2=80=99s =
much-anticipated speech, which focused on threats to free speech in Europe.=
The Middle East is not front and center, even though Saudi Arabia is set t=
o play host to Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin=E2=80=99s first i=
n-person peace negotiations. There is a sense of collective relief that Ham=
as seems to have reaffirmed that it will stick with the terms of the ceasef=
ire and hostage release schedule for now.</span>

e has been around since 1963, but it has evolved substantially in the last =
several years. The agenda has broadened to include climate change and food =

of Extinction,=E2=80=9D where former chef and now agricultural tech investo=
r, Sam Kass, curated a delicious meal consisting of ingredients that will b=
e scarce or extinct as a result of climate change. It was a sobering feast,=
not least because global warming is wreaking havoc on European grape crops=
. When French wineries are buying land in the United Kingdom to grow champa=
gne grapes, you know we are in dire straits.</span>

t AI offers and the Europeans=E2=80=99 concern that their regulatory approa=
ch might leave them further and further behind at a time when they desperat=

oint Chiefs of Staff, to listen to an in-depth CFR panel on space governanc=
e, which covered the particulars of space debris management, next-generatio=
n anti-satellite weapons, and mega-constellations. </span>
